Dr. Shiwani Arora and Dr Saloni Taneja in Kesariya Balam: A Celebration of Indian Folk Music

Drs. Arora and Taneja will be accompanied by Prathik Murali (PhD Student, Religion), as well as Sroyon Sengupta, Agnidhra Gain, and Mohit Budhwani (Vocal)

Accompanying Musicians:

Rajesh Bhandari (Tabla), Shawn Bhajman (Harmonium), Jitendra Patel (Keyboard), Hemanshu Patel (Octapad), Pratyush Goberdhan (Sarangi), and Pandit Nandkishor Muley (Santoor).

 

A welcome reception begins at 1 pm in the Harn Galleria.

Dr. Shiwani Arora

Dr. Shiwani Arora is a long-time resident of Gainesville, FL. She is the President and CEO of Patient First Health System which offers Oncology, Radiology and Laboratory Testing services in North Central Florida. Earlier, Dr. Arora worked as a Research Scientist in the Department of Medicine, University of Florida, for over ten years. Dr. Arora has a deep passion for music and has been singing since her childhood. She is trained in Semi-classical Hindustani music and learned from Shree Chatursen and Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan in India. She has continued her training in Hindustani Classical Music under Smt. Vaijayanthi Gopinath and Dr. Puja Goswami. Her musical interests are Urdu Ghazals, Sufi Music, Bhajans and other forms of Indian music.

Dr. Saloni Taneja

Saloni Taneja is a clinical psychologist and assistant professor at the University of Florida. She comes from a family of artists, playwrights, and musicians well known in the Delhi theatre circles and has been singing ever since she can remember. She learned music from her family, especially her mother and her aunt and imbibed ghazals, Punjabi folk music, and Sufi poetry from a very young age. Saloni has been performing theatre since infancy, and has composed music for many plays, following the big footsteps of her family. Dr. Taneja says that singing gives her immense happiness and contentment and takes her to a land that knows no bounds, much like the Sufis who lose themselves in their love for their Beloved.
